Nature journaling for all ages

Nature journaling is sketching or writing your response to nature. This fun and relaxing practice helps you connect more closely with plants, trees, birds and other natural things.

For all ages over 5, but children 5-12 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult

Objective

You will understand what nature journaling is and know different methods to make you journal work for you individual interests. You will start a journal and have completed at least 2 double pages using word, images, titles, icons and have the knowledge and confidence to continue.

Outline - 10am – 4pm with an hour for lunch

Day 1

10am-12.30pm

Introduction to nature journaling

What/why/where?

Overview of materials and equipment

Different ways to keep a journal

Simple pen and wash demonstration

If time, start your journal

Lunch 12.30-1.30

1.30-4pm Free time to start journaling

Day 2

10am-12.30

Using microscope – dissections of plant material to see parts too small for the naked eye.

Use of decorative lettering on pages already made

Lunch 12.30-1.30

1.30-3.30pm Free time to continue journaling

3.30-4pm review of work done, question time

 

Depending on weather, we will endeavour to get to 2 different landscapes.

Bad weather option – work indoors with natural specimens collected before hand
